ABOUT FACTORY STREET BREWING

Factory Street Brewing Company is housed in the historic Liggett & Myers tobacco prizery building in the heart of downtown South Boston, Virginia. Jeff and Lisa Francisco, bought the building in 2019 and had the idea of rehabbing the vacant building into a central gathering spot in the community. Restoring the century-old building back to the original brick and oversized timbers was a labor of love and a family affair. From sandblasting, to sealing window sashes, to welding railings, this family worked tirelessly for 3 years to complete the renovation on the building.
Jeff and Lisa knew that they needed to bring a brewer to Factory Street who had extensive brewing knowledge and a deep love of craft beer. They quickly discovered they already had their dream brewer on their team, their insurance agent, Brigid Layman. The three friends partnered together to make Factory Street Brewing a reality. The doors opened on May 8, 2021, and since that day Factory Street Brewing Company has delighted locals and visitors from near and far. Brigid Layman is the head brewer and she creates a rotating menu of crowd-pleasing favorites. Her true-to-form brews pay homage to the history of the community, in the names “Boyd’s Ferry Oatmeal Stout” and “1781 English Brown Ale.” Two tap handles rotate with seasonal varieties and experimental brews.
Old Meets New
Factory Street Brewing Company is nestled in the historic district of South Boston and is Halifax County’s first microbrewery. Guests are delighted by the total overhaul of this historic, 100-year-old Liggett-Myers tobacco prizery, including gorgeous mercury glass pendants, oversize beams, original brick work, and the unique bar which pays homage to the history of tobacco farming in the community. The bar is constructed from logs reclaimed from tobacco barns, and the bartop is made of real bright leaf and burley tobacco leaves.
Barley and hops are staples in all our beer, with grapefruit zest from our Grapefruit Pale Ale, ground corn from our Lawnmower Ale, wheat from our Halifax Honey Wheat, Oats from our Boyd’s Ferry Oatmeal Stout, Coffee Beans from our Legally Blonde Coffee Blonde Ale, and of course, bright leaf tobacco from right here in Halifax County.
Factory Street Brewing Company is a throwback to pubs of old, where friends and neighbors gathered to share old stories and create new ones. South Boston, Virginia is home to the tavern that served Revolutionary War leaders, and now Factory Street Brewing Co. makes good on that centuries old tradition. The fertile tobacco lands of Halifax County that nurtured the Southside community now produce the ingredients for craft beers and seasonal fare. Enjoy your beer in the beer garden where you’ll be sure to run into old friends or make new ones. And step inside to see the glory of yesteryear restored throughout the building.
